A Family DiseaseChemical Dependency is a complex family problem. It’s a family problem because families-not just individuals- are impacted by this disease. And it takes something more than willpower threats, or kindness to get the chemically dependent person on the road to recovery. It takes help and understanding from those who close to him or her; informed help. A family with an alcohol or substance abuse problem needs to learn about the disease, how it is affecting them and what treatment options are available. The Inter-Care Family program is for family members, friends, and significant others who will learn that through helping themselves, they will be able to help the chemically dependent person; Help in ways that might quite different from what is being (or not being done) now. Building Self Respect, Trust and HopeThe Family program here at Inter-Care helps clients understand chemical dependency and its effect on the entire family. It focuses on the illness as a family disease, reducing the anger and despair, guilt and blame often associated with it. Through individual counseling, group sessions and chemical dependency education, the program provides tools necessary to build self respect, trust and hope.
